OUR HISTORY:
Discover the essence of Filipino martial arts through Kombatan, a system steeped in tradition and developed by the esteemed Grandmaster Ernesto A. Presas. Kombatan's journey to Europe was marked by the vision of dedicated individuals like Tomi Harell (Kombatan Finland), who was granted the rights by Grandmaster Presas himself to establish a European organization.
In 2011, this vision culminated in the formation of the European Kombatan Association, spearheaded by Tomi Harell alongside Marina Regnér (Kombatan Sweden) and Salvador Caballero (Kombatan Spain). Rooted in friendship and a shared passion for the martial arts, our organization was built upon the principles of unity and camaraderie, fostering a family culture that binds us together.
As our organization grew, so did our family. Paulo Vilaça (Kombatan Portugal) joined in 2016, followed by Perry Zmugg (Kombatan Austria) in 2018, and Thorbjørn Hartelius (Kombatan Denmark) in 2019. The expansion continued with the addition of Peter Koncshak (Kombatan Germany) and Henning Hansen (Kombatan Norway) in the same year, enriching our international community.
We've marked significant milestones in our journey, hosting prestigious events like the Kombatan World Championships in Finland in 2018, the European Championships in Sweden in 2019, and in Austria in 2023. These events not only showcase the skill and dedication of our practitioners but also serve as platforms for cultural exchange and collaboration.
Our commitment to excellence extends beyond borders, as evidenced by our newest member countries, the Australia (represented by Andy Elliott), USA (represented by Joseph Bautista) and Argentina (represented by Gustavo Albertti). Quality, spirit, and the sense of belonging are the cornerstones of our organization, not merely its size. Proud members of IPMAF (International Philippine Martial Arts Federation), PEKAF (Philippine Escrima Kali Arnis Federation), and WFMAC (World Filipino Martial Arts Confederation), we stand united in our mission to promote and preserve the art of Kombatan on a global scale. Join us as we continue to write the next chapters of our shared story, one steeped in tradition, respect, and the unbreakable bonds of family.
