Instructor Stefan Hodemacher began his path to martial arts in 1977, at the age of 11, with Judo in the “Braunschweig Judo Club”. He practiced this for three and a half years. In 1979, parallel to Judo, he started with Shotokan Karate, also in the “Braunschweig Judo Club”. Unfortunately, the training times overlapped, so he had to decide which path to take next. His choice was based on Karate.
One of the trainers, Joachim Kiel, was also an expert in Tae Kwon Do, so at that time a mix of Shotokan Karate, Tae Kwon Do and Kickboxing was often taught. In 1985 he passed the 1st Kyu exam under national coach Günther Mohr and the exam in 1987 for 1st Dan under national coach Hideo Ochi. Stefan often attended courses in other styles such as Wado Ryu, Goju Ryu or the “American Karate System”. In 2016 he stopped his regular Karate training, but continues to attend interesting courses.

From 1986 - 1987 he also trained in Kickboxing alongside Shotokan karate, but unfortunately had to give this up again due to time constraints.
From 1990 – 1992 he trained Wing Chun.
In 1998 he came to Kombatan Arnis under Grandmaster Peter Konschak. Both knew each other from their shared Karate career in the 80s. He has been a coach at “PSV Braunschweig”/ “Arnis Braunschweig” since 2012. In 2012 he graduated to Lakan Isa (1st Dan), in 2014 to Lakan Dalawa (2nd Dan) and in 2017 to Lakan Tatlo (3rd Dan). In 2021 he was awarded the Lakan Apat (4th Dan) and the Instructor title by Grandmaster Peter Konschak. In 2019, Stefan was elected as the first chairman at the general meeting of “Arnis de Mano Deutschland e.V.” He still holds this position today.
In addition to Kombatan Arnis, he has been training another Filipino martial art, Pekiti Tirsia Kali, since 2012. Teachers here included Tuhon William MacGrath, Tuhon Kit Acenas and Tuhon Jared Wihongi.
Thanks to the intensive exchange with a friend's gym, he also takes advantage of every opportunity to attend courses in the Filipino martial art Cacoy Doce Pares. Teachers here included the legendary GM Richard Bustillo, GM John Mac and GM Ron R. Lew.
Lifelong learning and thinking outside the box are important to Stefan, so he repeatedly attends seminars in other systems and styles.
